A sales presentation doesn’t begin when you are telling and showing the prospect how you’ll solve their problems. It begins before you walk in the door to give the presentation. It begins with doing your homework on the company or person you’re presenting to and continues through the follow up after the sale.

Make sure you’ve done your homework on the company, the people you’re meeting with and as much as you can find out about their problems in advance. Customizing and practicing as much of the specific presentation you’ll give to them before you walk in the door is one of many sales presentation skills you must master.

Connect with your audience, make friends with them before you begin your presentation. If they don’t warm up to you or they aren’t friendly…leave. You’re not going to make the sale anyway so why waste your time?

If you have a fear of speaking or are nervous in a sales presentation, the prospects will spot that and loose confidence in you. Get over your fear of speaking. It’s not ok to be nervous. You need to come across as being extremely confident. An important sales presentation skill of top sales people is public speaking. Take a public speaking course, join Toastmasters, do what ever is necessary to feel comfortable and confident speaking to one or a hundred people.

A sales presentation should be perfect evey time. So how do you make it perfect? Practice, Practice, Practice. When I started in real estate I carried a cassette recorder with me and when I gave a listing presentation I would ask the couple or person if they would mind if I recorded it. I told them it was for my benefit and would help me become better at what I do.

Then I listened to the recording and learned how I sounded, what I said, how I said it, how persuasive I was and in the end how successful I was. It helped me understand what I did right, what I did wrong and what I would do different the next time.

Develop the right attitude. Become so confident in your product or service and the benefits it provides that your shocked when someone doesn’t want to buy it. You need to have the attitude that someone would have to crazy not to buy your product.

Also, go in with the attitude that you don’t need the sale. If it’s the end of the month, it’s a big sale or you need the money, it’s likely your prospect will sense you urgency.

You spent the time finding the lead and making the appointment, don’t waste the sales opportunity by not mastering the sales presentation skills to give a great sales presentation.

Use these sales presentation tips to get your prospect emotionally involved in your product or service and you’ll boost your sales.

Sales Presentation Tip #1 – Practice and Customize Your Presentation

Take time to practice your presentation many times before using it in a real live sales situation. You should know your presentation backwards and forwards, word for word. Never take notes to a sales presentation and referr to or read from them. That is so unprofessional.

Customize your presentation for each individual prospect. One of the worst things you can do is give a presentation that appears to the prospect has been given to every other person you sell to.

Sales Presentation Tip #2 – Build Rapport and Qualify

Make sure you build rapport, and qualified the prospect thoroughly before you dive in to your presentation. People buy from people they like and trust, so spend adequate time on rapport building.

The same goes for qualifying. Make sure you’re clear as to what the prospects problem is before presenting your product or service as the solution. The problems you uncover will determine how you customize your presentation and how your product or service solves their problems.

Sales Presentation Tip #3 – Be Friendly, Enthusiastic and Professional Looking

Remember, people are more likely to buy from a friend than a salesperson. So spend lots of time becoming their friend. Don’t rush into your presentation. Step back and develop a relationship with them. It will pay huge benefits.

One way to show your enthusiasm is to truly believe your product or service is the best thing to solve their problem. So having an understanding of how your product has helped others is critical.

Being professional looking includes many different areas. Your clothes for one. Make sure your wardrobe is up to date and doesn’t include suits you bought in the nineties. Polish your shoes, cut your nails, shave, get an up to date hair style. There are many ways you can look the part of a successful person. People want to buy from winners, so look like a winner.

Also make sure your presentation visuals are up to date and professional looking. Don’t use articles or testimonials that were written years ago. Get some new ones. Use the lastest technology to show prospects you’re on the cutting edge. I guarantee you most of your competitors aren’t.

Sales Presentation Tip #4 – Use Visual Aids

Your company may all ready have visual aids for you to use. Some things to include are media articles about you and your company. Testimonials you’ve received from satisfied clients. Tell stories about how you’ve helped another customer, especially ones that are similar to the current prospect.

Sales Presentation Tip #5 – Get the Prospect Involved

Using handouts is a great way to get a prospect following along with your presentation. You could play a game during the presentation or have them take a test. Ask them opened ended questions such as:

Do you see how easy this is to use?

What are the features you like the best?

How do you think this will benefit you/your company?

Get creative and come up with ways to get the prospect involved. It sets you apart from the competition.

Sales Presentation Tip #6 – Emphasize Customer Service and Long Term Relationships.

The prospect needs to be sure you won’t sell them and then disappear, never to be heard from again. Talk to them about your involvement in the delivery, training and service after the sale. Also let them know you’re their for the long term. That you’ll be there to help with problems and service. After all, you are the one building the relationship. So assure them you will oversee everything.

A winning sales presentation should answer all your prospects questions, get them excited and lead them to the conclusion that your product or service is the only solution to their problems.

If you want to market your business on the internet for free, there are five techniques you can use that are absolutely free.

Some will require a little bit of knowledge in order to implement them, but once you have them in place, you can continue to drive tons of traffic to your website.

1. Blogs/RSS
By blogging, you can build a relationship with your potential customers by providing information about your business.

You can build a free blog on sites like Blogger – bloggerdotcom – and submit your RSS feed for your blog to the major blogging sites.

You can also add a subscription box to your site using one of the free services available so that you can build a list.

2. Article Writing
Articles are another way to build your reputation in your chosen area of expertise. It’s also a way to offer potential customers value by providing them with information on your topic.

Article Marketer – articlemarketerdotcom – will allow you to distribute your articles to thousands of publishers for free.

You’ll be able to get traffic to your site immediately, as well as create a viral marketing strategy for your business.

3. Search Engine Optimization
Although search engine optimization of your site can be time consuming, it’s worth the effort.

By optimizing your site for the search engines, and then submitting your site, you can drive traffic to your site by choosing the correct keywords to target and then creating content for those keywords.

The best software for helping you optimize your website for the search engines is Web CEO, webceodotcom. This free software works on any computer and includes an HTML editor that will tell you if your pages are properly optimized.

4. Press Releases
Press releases are news about your business. In fact, they’re actually better than advertisements because you are providing information about your business.

With press releases, like articles, you can write search engine optimized content to submit to the main press release sites. Not only is this inexpensive, and sometimes free, but your press release could be featured on major news sites.

You can submit press releases to PR Web: prwebdotcom

5. Networking/Forums
Networking is a great way to meet other people in your industry. This is especially important if you want to do joint ventures because joint ventures can help you quickly increase your bottom line.

Forums are simliar in that you can meet others in your industry, but you can also go to forums on your topic of interest and meet others that are interested in your products and services.

To find the best forums and networking sites to market on, go to Alexa: alexadotcom. Search for “topic” (whatever your topic is), and forum.

The reason you want to use Alexa is that you can quickly get traffic stats and find out which forums and networking sites rank highest.

This will help you with linking because you can add a link to your site in your signature file when you post.

Although there are plenty of ways to market your business on the internet, some are more effective than others. Try these five to help you quickly get more traffic and sales.

There is much more to advertising than simply taking out an ad. If you stop and think for a minute as to what the purpose of an advertisement is – you will see many more skills are required. The aim of an advertisement is to bring to existing or potential clients, information on your product/service, with the outcome being a sale.

It is therefore important that you think of advertisements in both of these scenarios.
* Information
* Sales
So, when thinking of how to advertise, you must consider both. If the information does not provide exciting, dynamic, caring strategies, then sales will probably not occur.

I believe one of the most under utilised methods of increasing sales is via alliance partners -you must find a way to reach out to a potential alliance partner and put together a proposal that can benefit both of you and both your sets of customers! Joint or shared advertisements can work really well and is one way you can work together (though not the only way – consider a shared stand at a Trade Fair or promoting to each other’s customer list etc.)

Many people think that a website is not necessary for them as they do not want to sell online (e.g. they may have a retail outlet) – but you must remember, one of the main purposes of a website, is to use it to market an existing business – the website does not have to be the business itself. Think of it like a telephone directory advertisement – only you will have total control (if you don’t – change and get a website where you do); and it should not cost you an arm and a leg. You can get a lot more information on your website than in an advertisement and can change that information at will and when necessary. It can become a very dynamic marketing/advertising tool.

I so often hear business operators lamenting:
“I did not get anything out of that (book, seminar, conference etc).”
But on closer inspection it is more likely that they did not put anything into it. They need to think outside the square – they need to take an idea (preferably more than one) and think about how they could implement the concept or ideas expressed by others and ‘tweak’ them to fit their business. Action is what is important; inaction leads to mediocrity – and you do not want a mediocre business! Advertising is action – but it also needs the action of monitoring to ensure that you are getting the best out of your efforts.

Another thing you should learn to do – is to make use of words that ’sizzle’ and to use those words to create the right atmosphere in which a sale can be made. Too often we want to rely on our product to make the sale – whereas the energy of the word is a much more powerful tool (both spoken and written). Don’t be scared to use extravagant words – HUGE is better than Big; AWESOME reads better than Wonderful; JUMP OUT gives more meaning than Notice; – brainstorm with others to get the right word that is both DYNAMIC (energetic, vibrant, forceful) and EXCITING (thrilling; exhilarating) and watch your sales increase!
