Anyone who has ever had to receive urgent medical care understands the importance of every single second. In some cases, even lost seconds can mean the difference between life and death. With this in mind, it’s a good idea for just about everyone to have a plan in place for handling medical crisis. It doesn’t have to be elaborate. Even a simple plan can help keep your head clear during an emergency.

For families, the creation of a medical emergency plan can be particularly important. Young children should understand how to call for help and they should be taught at least the basics of understanding conditions that might require the call to be made. For example, a family member that’s not breathing, one who is unconscious or if an injury occurs and there’s profuse bleeding. Even three and four year olds can call 911 and many have, saving the lives of family members.

Creating a solid plan for a family doesn’t have to be a difficult process. Just consider the “what ifs.” This means things like who to call, where to go and who would watch any family members that might have to stay behind if there was a crisis. Small children and hospitals don’t mix well, so if they’re not the patients, a plan on where to take them or who to have come pick them up might be in order.

Drill young children every so often on what they should look for and what they should do in an emergency. This is a good idea, but especially so in families where a chronic condition, such as diabetes, is present. If this is the case though, considering a medical alarm might also be a good idea. The monitoring company can be made privy of the conditions in the home and they can pass on all pertinent information to medical personnel, freeing up the child or children from the burden of remembering it all.

Even people who live alone can benefit from an urgent care plan. Once again knowing who to call, where to go and what to do to make sure care is obtained quickly is always important. It doesn’t matter if it’s a serious cut or something much worse, such as a stroke or a heart attack, every minute counts.

Here again with the single person a medical alarm isn’t a bad idea. This even goes for the person without chronic conditions. Most accidents happen at home and sometimes they can be serious. Getting help when you need it is vital, but if no one knows you’re injured or sick, that might be impossible.

No matter whether you live alone or with a family, creating a plan for seeking urgent care is important. Think about including these things in any plan:

* Where to go

* Who to call

* Put insurance documents where they can be found quickly

* Consider what constitutes an emergency and how to handle different situations

The better prepared a person or family is for an emergency, the more likely it will be handled correctly. When urgent care is needed, making sure it’s obtained quickly can make a real difference. It only takes a little bit of planning to make sure you and your family are well prepared for emergency situations as they arise. Doing so may just save a life.

Acne is something that no one wants to have to deal with but unfortunately millions and millions of women do. If you have acne or have suffered from it in the past then you know how painful this affliction can be. And I am not just talking about the physical pain, I am talking about the emotional pain as well. Feeling embarrassed to leave the house because your face has broken out in acne is a terrible situation for most women and feeling like you have to hide is never something to relish. There are some things that you can do to combat acne and the more you learn about these things the better equipped you will be to nip acne in the bud right from the start.

For years and years people assumed that acne was suffered only by dirty people, people who did not believe in good hygiene. Thank goodness that science has put this myth to rest once and for all. Even the cleanest people in the world can get acne. In fact if you wash your face too much you are more inclined to get it rather than less inclines to. By stripping your face of all the oils you are actually causing the skin to overproduce oil to replace what has been stripped away. This can lead to an acne outbreak.

If you have chronic acne that just never seems to want to go away the first step that you should take is to make an appointment with your doctor. If you already have a dermatologist then make an appointment with him or her. They are the ones that will be able to help you the most when it comes to your acne troubles.

Most doctors will ask you what has and has not worked for you in the past. They may want to put you on some antibiotics. This is especially important to do if you have cystic acne or acne that is made up of many pustules under the skin. These infections can lead to serious scarring if not taken care of the right way. Antibiotics can get right in there and fight the infections from the root helping your skin to heal the right way.

Just make sure that you do not take these antibiotics any longer than you need to because they are not good for you in the long run. They can cause your teeth to change color and that is never a good thing. Talk to your doctor about the appropriate amount of time to be on any medication before you start taking them.

If you have not yet tried any topical treatments for your acne then ask the doctor about these as well. There are many topical treatments that are put onto the skin that have done wonders for millions of people. Find out about these and give a few a try. If one does not work do not get discouraged, it does not mean that others won’t work. Every woman’s skin is different and it may take a little trial and error to find what is right for you.

Where have all the manners gone? Three things give rise to my query. First, the failure of folks day by day to just say thank you for an act of kindness or generosity. Second, as reported in the New York Times recently, the dilapidated sportsmanship of more than the usual handful of spoiled Olympic athletes who just can’t grasp how they could lose or why bible-thick Omaha steaks aren’t steaming away on every streetcorner in Turin. For heroes like them. And third, the rancorous mooing between herds that is the picture of current cultural discourse. Did someone say fair mindedness? What purple critter are you? A left-wing pundit (could just as well have been a conservative one) recently extolled the virtue of passion while defending an instance of clearly barbaric personal assault. We have a new it word, I suspect. Passion. A blanket exoneration of every kind of stupid, well, mooing.

Shake hands.

Back in ancient high school, that long ago, I threw discus and shotput. Hated losing, loved to win. Of course we want our team to be the best, but isn’t it also in our national interest to field a team of competitors who are exemplary offspring of that responsible freedom we herald as mankind’s highest ideal? Athletes as fair and generous in spirit as they are ruthless in competition? I’d send every athlete who wants to represent his or her country to a month of etiquette classes. This is how you shakes hands. This is when you shake hands. OK, maybe not the most dazzling form of athletic dexterity, but essential nonetheless. Make the penalty for rotten behaviour severe.

The Tipping Territory.

About passion, it’s over, I think. At least as a euphemism for the simplistic one-track thinking, or fundamentalism, of current political, intellectual and cultural debate. I’d like to think so, anyway. I’d like to think that, just as Malcolm Gladwell’s The Tipping Point ushered in an optimistic new way to think about change, we are ready for a brand new territory where civility governs passion, where people are free to think for themselves and where we actually listen to and consider alternative points of view. A non-left, non-right territory capable of fresh ideas. Less emphasis on being cool or on being righteous, those identical twins, and more on being interesting. See, good manners have a very pragmatic, even avant-garde potential. They open up fresh space for new ideas, new ways of thinking. They usher in that most radical of subversives, optimism. If someone is polite to you, you listen. Listening in turn invigorates and reshapes your own thoughts. If someone is shouting at you, hey, you shout back in the same cliches you alway use to shout back.

Etiquette classes for all of us.

What a chimera, etiquette classes for young athletes. How about this, then. Etiquette classes for all of us. And every five years, a refresher course. Airline pilots update their skills regularly. Rough weather, emergency situations, drastic loss of altitude are no less frequent in the skies of day-to-day life and updating the social skills to navigate through them smoothly, graciously may not be such a bad idea.

Thank you.

Two words. One syllable each. We’re not talking elocutionary figure skating here. Simple, simple, simple. A handwritten note, into the envelope, on goes a stamp and you have sent a huge bouquet of goodwill into the world. Better yet, forget the stamp and just tuck it under your wife’s coffee cup.

Many people are at a loss when trying to put together foods for a proper diet. If you follow these guidelines they will help you get a good start.

50 to 55% of your diet should be carbohydrates. It is a myth that you should try and avoid carbohydrates when you are on a diet. Rather the other way round I should say. Carbohydrates are a ready source of energy and so 50 to 55% of your diet should be carbohydrates.

25 to 30% of your diet should be proteins. Various processes and activities are going on in our bodies. Things are broken down and being built up again.
Resistance has to be built up, recovery from disease too is needed and for all this the body needs plenty of proteins so see to it that 25 to 30 % of your diet consists of proteins. Protein also builds muscle and the higher your muscle content the higher your metabolism. You should aim for about one gram per pound of bodyweight.

Fats should only be 15 to 20 %. You need only this much of fat in your diet so keep it at that.

Try and adopt a vegetarian diet. A vegetarian diet is undoubtedly better for those of us watching our diet. There are a lot of advantages of keeping to a vegetarian diet but I don’t want to sing an ode to vegetarianism now. What I would suggest is keep to a vegetarian diet as much as you can. Make a non- vegetarian diet a week end event or something if you find it impossible to give up eating all those animals.

Choose white meat rather than red. White meat, which includes fish and fowl, is miles better than red meat, which includes beef and pork for those trying to lose weight.

High Fiber multigrain breads are better than white breads. Remember how I told you to increase the fiber content in your food; well this is the answer to that. It is not only better in terms of the fiber content but also in terms of the protein content as well. Reduce your intake of pork. Pork is not something that can help you to lose weight. So the lesser pork you eat the better chances you have of losing weight. And remember that pork includes the pork products as well, things like bacon, ham and sausages.

Limit your sugar intake. If you can’t have things unsweetened go for sugar substitutes. These things are just as sweetening but are certainly not fattening.

Graze 5 to 6 times a day. Instead of sticking to just three meals a day, try grazing. Grazing means try having 5 or 6 smaller meals instead of three king sized meals. It is an excellent way of having smaller quantities of food.
Go ahead eat cheat food, but only for flavor. There are many things which you have to avoid from your diet but which you may have an undying craving for. Do not avoid them altogether. You could call them cheat foods and indulge in them once in a while. But take care just to tingle your taste buds, don’t hog on them. Instead of that share them with others.

Follow these tips to help you with any diet program.

Flowers and plants can brighten up any occasion and make an event more memorable. Flowers can help you to express almost any emotion without the need for words and can perfectly convey your intended message. Some examples of the significance of flowers and the sentiments that they can put across are congratulations on the birth of a baby, or a promotion, or passing an exam. Flowers are a great gift for an ailing friend or relative to wish them a speedy recovery or a sign of condolence to a grieving friend. Of course flowers are also a fantastic way to show your love for someone and roses are traditionally given with this purpose in
mind.

There doesn’t have to be a special occasion as a reason to buy flowers, you may simply want to buy some for yourself to brighten up your day. Flowers can have a double effect of soothing and also rejuvenating a person. Flowers have even been suggested as being beneficial to sufferers of depression. Flowers truly are a miracle of nature. If you find that you have a creative streak and are skilled at flower arranging you may even want to consider starting your own florist business.

There are a variety of services that a florist can offer. Florists can provide stores with freshly cut flowers or potted plants for them to sell or provide the flowers to customers directly. The type of clients that a florist may have can vary from
individuals to groups and companies.

Starting your own florist’s business requires a lot of business acumen and planning. Apart from the obvious skills you need for actually arranging the flowers you need to be able to promote your business effectively and deal with all the day to day tasks associated with owning and running a business.

A florist has to be customer focused to make their business a success and you will need to have good interpersonal skills and a pleasant personality. You need to be able to be better than your competition to secure more customers. Another requirement that is not essential, but would be extremely beneficial for you to have, would be a background in horticulture. At the end of the day the key factors to your florist business being a success is the happiness of your customers.
