A glass shower door can take a bathroom design that’s plain and ordinary and make it incredible. Functional, yet chic the glass doors of today offer a lot of more options than designs from the past, too.

It’s true that for some, the bathroom is simply a room to take care of business. It can be plain, basic and boring as long as it’s functional. Glass doors can work here, too. By going with one of simplistic designs, the care is easy, the functionality is present and there’s no shower curtain to wash and/or replace.

Others, however, see the bathroom as an escape. It’s a place to soak in a warm tub or take in a hot shower. It should be relaxing, eye appealing and a pleasure to retreat to. For these people, a bathroom design can be as important as the living or dining rooms. Aesthetically pleasing, clean and beautiful are musts.

Here’s where glass doors can make a real difference. Depending on bathroom size and design, shower doors can be simply functional, yet beautiful or they can make a statement in a room.

Large bathrooms, for example, often have a separate showering area along with a standalone tub. Showers can be enclosed entirely in a frameless glass structure that speaks to style with unusual lines and visually pleasing designs. Elaborate and beautiful, these structures add an architectural appeal to a bathroom. Whether going for basic glass or intricately designed glass, too, can make a real difference. The choices here are almost endless as good glassmakers can even create a motif in the pieces. If what’s wanted isn’t available in a standard door, a custom made one can fill the need.

Smaller bathrooms can still benefit from a glass door. The sliding types that tend to go into shower/tub combinations can still be beautiful. Think beyond the basic frosted or bumped glass sheeting to pieces of glass with designs or colors and the idea starts to become clearer. Here, too, custom pieces can be designed or special styles ordered.

Whether going basic and frosted or elaborate and frameless, the choice of glass for the bathroom is important, too. It should be rated for safety no matter the design chosen. Glass in the bath should break like a windshield on car in tons of little pieces rather than sharp shards.

Once glass has been chosen and installed, caring for it might take a special touch. Depending on the type and style you’ve chosen, the care may be slightly different. It’s a good idea to talk with the installer or follow manufacturer instructions for care. No matter the case though, caring for glass can be easy if regular maintenance is part of a routine.

Wipe down the glass after each use and be certain to remove any soap or conditioner residue that might be stuck on it. Don’t use harsh abrasives. Regular wiping will help cut down on water stains or mineral build up, which makes overall care that much easier.

A glass shower door can turn an ordinary bathroom into an extraordinary one. They can also lend a utilitarian sense to a regular bathroom, serving basic needs better than curtains.

Until recently, there has been a battle between proponents of alternative medicine and believers in conventional medicine. It seemed that to back
one was to deny the other. This is no longer the case. An increasingly knowledgeable public is aiming for health and wellness, a more general term that recognises that both conventional medicine and alternative medicine have something to offer. These two fields now create a whole new medical approach.

What is conventional medicine?

Conventional medicine is used to describe the services that treat the symptoms of a disease or illness with prescribed medications and surgeries. Conventional medicine treats the ailing part of the body but may not address the underlying causes of the illness or disease. This area of medicine is what is practiced in hospitals and most doctor’s offices in the Western world. Backed by the FDA and multiple scientific studies, conventional medicine is highly regulated for the benefit of the patient.

What is alternative medicine?

An alternative form of treatment to conventional medicine, alternative medicine attempts to treat the patient as a whole – the mind, spirit, and body – to prevent diseases and illnesses from occurring and creating a better overall quality of life rather than just a body free of symptoms. Because it acknowledges that the patient’s physical health is directly affected by state of mind and spiritual health, alternative medicine offers preventative
treatments that are often relaxing and non-invasive.

Can conventional medicine co-exist with alternative medicine?

Increasingly, more and more people would like to believe so and are introducing alternative therapies, such as massage therapy and energy balancing, into their daily lives. When sick, these people may still go back to their western allopathic medicine for speedy recovery.

In fact, “integrative medicine” is the term coined for which the scientific and objectivity of conventional medicine is complemented with the subjective, more personal dynamics of alternative medicine. It is a new movement that is driven by consumers, that is, patients who demand

higher standards of health; in short, total wellness. In addition to providing the best conventional care, integrative medicine focuses on preventive lifestyle measures. These lifestyle measures include diet, exercise, stress management, and emotional well-being. However, as it is still evolving, more needs to be investigated into precisely what “integrative medicine” stands for and what it advocates.

In the meantime, for anyone, it is important to understand the principles of each area of medicine. Only then, can one benefit from making a wise choice in terms of one’s health and wellness.

Oxygen therapy is a measure that can help many people who have various lung diseases lead relatively normal lives or at least help make them more comfortable during other treatments. Often times, this therapy is given in the privacy and comfort of a patient’s own home. But, to be truly effective, the therapy must be handled with care.

Oxygen itself is vital for the life of every single cell in a human body. Cells obtain their energy from their interaction with oxygen. When there isn’t enough oxygen for cells to perform their normal tasks, they can be damaged or even die. The energy provided by oxygen is necessary for everything from breathing to blinking and moving a finger. Inasmuch, if its levels are not adequate in the body problems, and some big ones, can arise.

Lung diseases likes emphysema diminish lung function and cut out on the amount of oxygen that enters the body in a normal fashion. In serious cases, supplemental oxygen is needed to help the body go about its normal business. With the use of oxygen therapy, people with these diseases can enjoy life and avoid hospitalization for a time.

For those who opt for home therapy, there are three basic ways oxygen can be dispensed. Compressed gas and liquid oxygen are two of the main ways oxygen is delivered to patients at home. The gas form can be compressed and stored in tanks for easy mobility. Liquid oxygen is the favorite of those who are a little more active. Since it is even more compressed that the gaseous form, smaller tanks can hold more and they are more convenient to carry. The problem with this type of oxygen is that it can evaporate quickly.

The third type of oxygen that can be given to patients at home is a concentrator. This device is a bit large, but it creates its own oxygen by taking it from the surrounding air and removing any impurities. The problem here is that these can be noisy, create heat and they are simply not portable.

Although it’s not necessarily how a patient would want to spend their lives, therapy with oxygen can be very beneficial and in fact help a person with a serious condition enjoy life more freely. Oxygen supplements can increase a patient’s ability to sleep, improve their mood and stamina and also enable their bodies to function more correctly.

Safety precautions must be considered for home oxygen use though. It’s a good idea to keep open flames and cigarettes away from containers and the patient while he or she is using oxygen. This gas is very, very flammable. It is also important that people in the home know how to read canister gauges and know when to refill oxygen or when to order more.

Oxygen therapy is a very good route for lung patients to consider going at home. There’s no need for nursing home care or hospitalization if other measures prove beneficial. Lung diseases are serious, but the impacts on quality of life can be lessened.

Alternative medicine and alternative therapies are therapeutic practices, which are currently not considered as an integral part of conventional medicine. Conventional medicine is the current mainstream medical system of diagnosis and treatment of disease.

However, an increasing desire for wellness, in response to today’s stressful lifestyle and rising incidences of cancer, disease and illness, has led to the rising demand for alternative medicine and therapies. It is true that many people are becoming disenchanted with conventional medicine’s drugs and the approach to healing.

What is the difference between conventional medicine and alternative medicine? In general, conventional medicine tends to focus on the disease and employs techniques to treat it. It views the body as a war zone where battles against invading organisms are fought, and won or lost. It focuses more on techniques, technology, chemical reactions that can be measured, statistically proven and documented. Treatment is on the part of the body that is displaying the symptoms of the illness or disease.

On the other hand, alternative medicine tends to be “holistic”, where an individual’s health is considered as a whole and treatment not just focused on the symptoms. Alternative medicine employ “natural” methods to aid the healing powers of the body to return to a state of health. Treatment is holistic; that is it takes into account every aspect of a patient and not just on the health symptoms that he or she is experiencing.

Contrary to popular belief, alternative medicine has a history longer than conventional medicine. Much of alternative medicine is derived from ancient healing techniques. For instance, the use of herbs is practiced all over the world since a long time ago; whether in India as ayurvedic medicine, in China as traditional Chinese medicine or used as aromatherapy which can be traced back to ancient Egyptian times.

There are a full range of alternative medicine and complementary therapies. They include acupuncture, energy healing, hypnosis, flower essences therapy, EFT, homeopathy, etc – all aimed at restoring the body back to balance and thus helping an individual achieve total wellness.

It would seem that after the above explanations, alternative medicine is superior to conventional medicine. This will not be an accurate view for all health situations.

Conventional medicine, does in fact, have a place in health treatment. Conventional medical interventions such as surgery, chemotherapy, radiation, and antibiotics do bring benefits. They can prevent death, pain and give hope to people to walk again, provide instant relief, and also, provide a new functioning organ in place of a diseased and ailing one.

Also, alternative practitioners do not condemn conventional medical practices altogether. Their belief is somewhat different, however. That these conventional medical interventions should not be the first choice of treatment, as it often is. The point is that most tend to seek natural or alternative medicine as the last resort. Seeking holistic treatment as a last ditch for health and life is not a very good idea as alternative medicine takes a long time to show positive healing benefits.

For the general public, I guess it is important to realize that there are more ways than one in the aspect of health. Fortunately, with the advent of the holistic health movement over the last two decades, a growing number of conventional doctors are now recognizing that health is more than the absence of disease.

Many more medical doctors practice “integrative” medicine, where they combine research-backed alternative medical treatments with the best of conventional allopathic medicine. This may just be the best way to go. The overall objective to aim in the environment of today and tomorrow is for a higher standard of health; in short, total wellness.

Those of us who claim that we do not practice any form of alternative medicine or therapies have missed out considering all the simple remedies that we apply at home.

Consider the following examples:-
- Do you massage your neck at the back when you have a splitting headache?
- Do you put an ice pack on a sprained ankle?
- Have you not ever used some aromatherapy for your room?
- Have you not ever take some honey when you are having a bad throat?
- Have you not ever taken chamomile tea for cooling and for de-stress?
- Do you drink your mum’s traditional herbal chicken soup home brewed for 10 hours meant for strengthening and warming your internal body?

In fact, these represent just a few out of the many simple remedies that we use in our everyday life. When we think of alternative medicine or therapies, we conjure images of some out-of-the-ordinary practices. Of course, alternative medicine and therapies can range to the more “unconventional” ones like hypnotherapy, past life regression, energy healing, etc. But mostly, they are not.

Here comes some surprising statistics. The World Health Organization estimates that between 65 and 80 percent of the world’s population (about 3 billion people) rely on traditional (read: “alternative”) medicine as their primary form of health care. It further states that when these traditional medical treatments are introduced into Western culture, they are seen as complementary or alternative.

Most of us tend to fail to factor in these alternative everyday remedies, but choose to think that we are believers of conventional medicine versus alternative medicine. After all, conventional medicine is very much backed by well documented research, statistics and proven theories; whereas alternative medicine is not. Still, having the benefit of practicing some of these home remedies, there is no denying that they do help in providing some form of relief and treatment. In addition, they don’t cost much in terms of money and time, and most importantly, have few or little side effects.

It is therefore, a good idea to spend some time to get to know more about these alternative therapies and remedies and apply them more diligently to our everyday life. We may choose to include massage therapy, aromatherapy, eating a healthy diet, practicing yoga and relaxing breathing techniques. In the end, our spending on drugs and doctor’s bills is likely to be less and at the same time, we will be adopting natural methods to heal ourselves.
