What woman doesn’t want to be treated to a little romance every once in a while? Many women will agree that romance is all about the details. Small gestures really do make a normal night out into something romantic. So listen up…because these tips will sure earn you some points…

The key to being romantic is thoughtfulness…so start being a little less selfish. Learn that mood, location, situation and ambience can heighten romance with dramatic effect. Communicate with your partner on every level and anticipate their desires and needs. Look at your partner when they are talking and hold their gaze.

Try doing little things to get right at your partner’s soft spot. Phone just to say hello, I love you and give your partner a nice surprise. Send them notes and small cards telling them you are thinking of them. Be spontaneous and do little deeds that show you care. Bring home take out from their favorite restaurant or take them to their favorite ice cream shop. Flowers are always a nice touch at any time of year. Be creative and pick out their favorite colors and types for a personal touch. Remember birthdays, anniversaries and landmark days such as the day you first met or first kissed, and plan something…maybe a return to the first date location. Listen to clues that your partner might drop, such as their favorite dessert or books they like, and surprise them with little gifts.

Learn how to hug, cuddle and make physical contact. Dance together when the occasion arises. Hold hands and do anything to make your partner feel close to you.

Write him/her a letter and let them know that you love them and you mean it. Use nice stationary, or make your own card, which shows thought and inspiration.

In terms of dates, learn how to cook your partner’s favorite dish. Plan a surprise candlelit dinner followed by a romantic movie. Take your partner on a picnic to the park or beach and prepare in advance without involving them. This initiative is very romantic.

Once you have been together awhile and you are comfortable with each other or you are moving into a more intimate relationship you could start looking into some sexy lingerie. If the feeling is mutual you will make some bi brownie points not to mention create an atmosphere of excitement and sensuality by giving her a sexy lingerie gift for your first time together or vice versa if you are a woman you can really impress him by wearing something sexy for him, just make sure it is new. No guy wants his woman wearing lingerie another guy bought!

I don’t know how it is where you live but chances are if you live in an urban or suburban area you have had to deal with mailbox vandalism of some type. People who live in rural areas suffer even more damage in many cases because the mailbox is usually located a good distance from the home and there aren’t many neighbors around to keep a watchful eye.

I guess even the fact that tampering with or damaging a mailbox is a federal crime doesn’t stop some people from destroying them. I have a neighbor who lives on the corner of a main road in our subdivision whose mailbox has been destroyed several times in as many months!

So what can you do to protect against mailbox vandalism? Well, you could sit on your front porch with a shotgun. No, not very realistic is it? You could mount a surveillance camera on your property so you could at least identify the culprits. Prices on surveillance systems have come down quite a bit these days.

Another thing that I have seen that works very well is to invest in a better mailbox. It is the cheap galvanized or aluminum mailboxes that I have seen targeted by vandals. Why? Because they are easier to destroy. Most of these vandals are teenagers out joyriding and looking for something destructive to do. They ride down the rode with the passenger hanging out the window with a baseball bat and when they come up on a weak looking mailbox they give it a good whack. You won’t see them hitting a brick mailbox with a bat, nor will you see them take a shot at a sturdy, solid steel mailbox.

If you own your home it just makes sense to invest in a better mailbox to ward off would be vandals and to protect your mail. There are even new high tech mailboxes that allow the postal carrier to drop your mail in a slot but the mail can only be retrieved via an electronic keypad. This helps prevent another kind of vandalism as well as identity theft.

The following suggestions come from the United States Postal Service:

Immediately report theft, tampering with, or destruction of mail and mailboxes to your local postmaster. You will be asked to complete PS Form 1510, Mail Loss and Rifling Report, or PS Form 2016, Mail Theft and Vandalism Complaint. These forms help the Postal Inspection Service determine whether your problem is isolated or one frequently experienced in your neighborhood.

Remove your mail from your mailbox as soon as possible after its delivery. Allowing mail to pile up for several days only tempts would-be vandals and thieves. If it is impossible for you to pick up your mail right after delivery, and you have been experiencing problems with mailbox vandalism or mail theft, consider renting a post office box, which will provide a secure method of delivery. You may find your peace of mind is worth the small rental fee.

Obtain Label 33 from the Postal Inspection Service. This sticker, which warns that willful damage to mail boxes and theft of mail is a crime, can be affixed to your mailbox.

If you discover someone tampering with your or your neighbor’s mailbox, obtain that person’s description and that of his vehicle, including the license plate number. Immediately report the information to your local police and postmaster.

Keep your mailbox in good repair by using proper installation methods. This may help prevent theft of the mailbox itself.

Many people facing retirement choose to sell their big house and downsize to a retirement community. Finding a community that suits your needs takes a bit of research and some careful thought. There are many things to consider when choosing a retirement community and you don’t want to take this life changing event lightly.

One important consideration when moving to a retirement community is location. Is staying near your family important? Or maybe moving to a warmer climate is top priority? Whether you decide to stay in your own town or move to another state, you’ll want to look into things like home price, community fees, taxes, social life, sports teams, cultural activities, golf courses, educational opportunities, the town crime rates as well as the overall environment.

Before you uproot yourself, think long and hard about what you want to do in your retirement. Are you an avid golfer? Then a community with a golf course should be tops on your list. Many people these days want to keep working after retirement, if this suits you then you need to consider if the local employment opportunities are to your liking. If you want to live in a place that has lots of activities like cards and bingo as well as entertainment, then you’ll want to put communities that offer these things on the top of your list.

Another consideration is your health. Some retirement communities offer unlimited medical and nursing home care as part of the package fees. Others offer only limited medical care and still others have a pay as you go basis. Of course, if you are in good health this may not be a concern to you now, but further on down the road it may be important so it doesn’t hurt to plan for this.

Some communities only accept a limited number of applicants that have health conditions. Many require that you pass physical as well as mental checks when you apply. Applicants that have had a stroke or have cancer or dementia may not be accepted. If you have a retirement community that you really want to be a part of, then it is advisable to apply while you are still in good health, if you wait until you have health problems you may never get in.

Another thing to check on when evaluating retirement communities is to see if they are accredited. . The Continuing Care Accreditation Commission is the agency that accredits continuing care retirement communities. If you are looking for a continuing care community, make sure to find out how the medical care is provided and if there is assisted living care on site.

Finally, once you have narrowed your choices down, see if you can spend a night in the community and have a meal there. This is a great way to find out first hand what it is really like there. You can also meet some of the residents and get the real scoop on life in your chosen retirement community.

Are you on diet or consider going on one? Consider yourself lucky because I’ve put together the answer to ten of the most burning questions about diets and weight loss. Here they are:

* How much should I weigh?
Your doctor can answer that question most accurately. More important than how much you weigh is your body/mass index, which measures your height against your weight.

* What’s the best diet for losing weight?
Any diet that provides all the nutrition that you need for health, and in addition, provides fewer calories than your body burns regularly.

* How can I keep off the weight that I lose?
If you lose weight gradually and re-educate both yourself and your body about food, you’ll have a good start. The secret to keeping weight off is to balance your energy needs with your food intake. Eat enough calories to supply your body’s energy needs, but not so many that your body stores the excess as fat.

* What’s the story with obesity and diabetes?
Obesity increases the risks of a number of chronic health conditions, and diabetes is one of them. People who are more than ten percent overweight increase their risk of developing type 2 diabetes substantially.

* How do I decrease my intake of sugar?
Obviously, you can decrease your intake of sugar by cutting out sweets and refined snacks, but you should also watch out for ‘hidden’ sugars. Check ingredients. High fructose corn syrup and sucrose are both simple sugars that add lots of calories and little nutrition.

* How often should I weigh myself?
Most diet experts recommend that you weigh yourself no more than once a week. Some go so far as to tell you to throw out the scale entirely! A more accurate measure of your loss is your clothing size. If your clothing is feeling looser, you’re doing great.

* Do I really have to exercise?
You don’t HAVE to, but it will be a lot harder to lose weight if you don’t. A half hour of moderate exercise daily is the minimum activity level for healthy weight loss. You can get it walking, running, cleaning your house – anything active burns calories.

* What’s a calorie?
A calorie is a measure of energy. Foods are rated with calories based on the amount of energy they provide to the body when consumed.

* Can I lose weight without changing my diet?
Weight loss results when you burn more calories than you consume. If you only need to lose a small amount of weight and your diet is generally healthy, you can lose weight by increasing your activity level to burn more calories. If your diet is poor, or if you’re more than a few pounds overweight, you really need to learn a new, more healthy way or eating, or you’ll put the weight back on when you go back to ‘normal’ eating.

* Should I eat fish on my diet?
Unless it’s expressly forbidden by your diet, absolutely. Fish is high protein, low saturated fat, and high in omega 3 fatty acids. Some doctors recommend eating as much as 10 servings of fish per week.
